Ruurd Dirk Hoogland (1922 Leeuwarden - May 2 1994 Amsterdam) was a Dutch explorer and naturalist, who made numerous botanical expeditions to New Guinea , Australia and Europe. He was an expert on the Cunoniaceae family. [1]
He received his university education in Groningen and Leiden. He earned his doctorate in 1952 , with a review of the genus Dillenia L. . And that year he joined the CSIRO in the Division of Land and Regional Study as a botanist with the Research Group in New Guinea. [2]
